McAfee has announced that as of December 31st 2011 they will no longer be supporting version 8.5 of their VirusScan antivirus product.

If your School is using version 8.5 of the VirusScan software Scomis strongly recommend it is upgraded to the current installable release. For more information please see http://faq.scomis.org/kb4836/ .

Yesterday McAfee published an update with a problem which corrupted some key computer processes.

PC’s manifesting this problem may display some of the following symptoms:

  • PC will continually shutdown and reboot
  • No access to the internet
  • Start menu and taskbar not showing
  • No Network access
  • Missing Network Drive ( F:\, G:\ )

ScoMIS now have a fix and full instructions for applying this can be found in the following FAQ:

http://faq.scomis.org/kb885/

In the first instance, Schools are advised to visit the NEW ScoMIS FAQ site on the above link and print the instructions to be manually carried out on the affected Computers.

If Schools are unable to access the FAQ or download and apply the fix, please contact the ScoMIS Service desk on 01392 385300 or email ScoMIS@devon.gov.uk

Please note: ScoMIS advise this is a major incident affecting all McAfee customers worldwide and is not a Virus. There will be no further affect to Schools computers or data once the fix has been applied.
