SWGfL experienced a webserver failure and DNS issues earlier today, affecting access to some webpages – including RMSecurenet and Easymail Plus.

SwGfL now report that most schools should have full internet functionality restored, although there may still be some lingering issues remaining for some schools as SWGfL

There has been an issue importing some November Exam result files.

Capita are aware of the problem and are currently creating and testing a fix, the estimated time for delivery is 48 hours.

ScoMIS will distribute the file as soon as possible and will email schools to let them know it is available.

The ScoMIS Service Desk will be closed between 12.30 and 2.00pm on Friday 8th October to enable the whole team to bid a fond farewell to Steve Salway.

Steve will be retiring as Head of Service from ScoMIS after 39 years service with Devon County Council. Steve has been closely involved with education and ICT for the majority of his career.

In 1989 he was instrumental in the setting up of ScoMIS to provide ICT support to schools when they were provided with a Vanilla 286 computer and some software called 'SIMS' as a Management Information System. Initially a very small support team was based at County Hall who then moved to temporary buildings at St James School.

Since then Steve has been pivotal in the continued growth of the ScoMIS Team to a large local authority support unit providing a wide range of services with a focus on ensuring that ICT is used as a tool within schools to enhance the teaching and learning outcomes for the young people of Devon - both whilst heading up the technical arm of ScoMIS and as the Head of Service for ScoMIS since 2008. Steve is also a member of the Senior Management Team for Devon ICT Services.

The ScoMIS Team are sure that Schools as well as other colleagues within Devon County Council and beyond will all share with us in sending their very best wishes to Steve for a long, happy, healthy and well deserved retirement which will give him a lot more time to pursue his many interests.

All other ScoMIS Managed Services will continue to be available throughout. Should you need to contact us then please either leave a message on our voicemail or email us at ScoMIS@devon.gov.uk.

Work has been carried out on Merlin in preparation for the release of the new functionality later in the autumn term including Communicator, Parental Engagement and an upgrade to the core service details of which can be found :

http://www.swgfl.org.uk/Learning/SWGfL-Merlin-Home/SWGfL-Merlin-in-Action/Development-Roadmap

This area will be changing regularly to incorporate the very latest information in relation to upgrades, new functionality and features.

Full functionality will be restored at 12 noon today.

There are currently access issues to some Devon Web Pages. Schools trying to access the pages such as http://staff.devon.gov.uk will simply receive the message that the page cannot be displayed. Devon ICT Services are aware of this and are investigating as a matter of priority.

We do not have a resolution time at present, but will provide updates as and when appropriate.

ScoMIS have been accredited by Capita Children’s Services for the SIMS support we provide to schools since 2002. ScoMIS are now seeking re-accreditation for a further two years.

An important part of the process is the independent feedback that Capita obtain from schools on our performance in support of their SIMS products. This information is collected using an on-line survey and gives schools an opportunity to assess the support they are receiving.

You will receive an email from Capita Children’s Services in the next few days. The on-line survey will be available to schools from 14th June to 25th June.

As part of the improvements made last summer to Easymail, the size of every user mailbox in the SWGfL was increased to 1GB at no charge to schools. This has been a very popular change and more and more schools are making good use of this.

Because of the increase in use, SWGfL need to add more storage capacity to their systems to continue to provide this functionality. The work is scheduled to take place at 6am on Thursday 6th of May. The work will probably only take about two hours and it is not expected that Easymail will unavailable in this period and you should be able to log in and use your Easymail as usual during this period.

Please contact the SWGfL Helpdesk or your Local Authority support team if you have any questions about this or have problems afterwards.

You can read about the SWGfL Mail service and find out your support team contact numbers here: http://www.swgfl.org.uk/Services/SWGfL-Mail
