Anti-virus licences for Devon, Plymouth and Torbay schools expire on March 31st 2011. ScoMIS have been able to successfully negotiate with our supplier which means that there will be no increase in price for the third year running. McAfee School Client Licences will remain at £2.64 per licence.

Please complete the online form indicating if your school would like to buy into the anti-virus service, and also how many licences will be required. Details of the anti-virus software are available on the ScoMIS website at http://www.scomis.org/go/antivirus. If you are making your own arrangements to purchase antivirus software elsewhere, please indicate this on the on-line form. This will prevent licence update reminders being sent to you.

ScoMIS highly recommend schools carry out a full inventory in both the curriculum and administration areas to enable the correct number of licences are purchased to cover each PC and laptop within the school (including any home use PC).

Schools who choose not to purchase anti-virus licences from ScoMIS will need to source their own anti-virus licences and remove the anti-virus software supplied by ScoMIS from all their PCs by the 31st March 2011.

For further information please contact the ScoMIS Service Desk on 01392 385300

Schools were unable to access the Hosted Terminal Server, ScoMIS Remote Support, Sims Learning Gateway and Attix services hosted at Great Moor House for a period of around 3 hours on Thursday morning. Investigations within SWGfL are still underway, but the main cause appears to have been some overnight work on the SWGfL firewalls (managed by RM IHG) prior to moving to a new firewall platform. An error occurred in the rule sets, disrupting routing to ScoMIS servers. When this was identified, the correct firewall rules were reapplied and the problem resolved.

In a separate issue, the main link to ScoMIS went down in the early hours of Thursday morning - our resilient circuit took over and reverted back when the problem was cleared, with no noticeable break in service.

Discussions are underway to establish how this was able to happen, and to avoid issues like this in the future.

We are experiencing an issue with the ScoMIS Hosted Terminal Server Service. Most subscribers to this service are not able to access the system.

Schools based within the Exeter area, however, are still able to access this Service.

ScoMIS are investigating the cause of the outage as our highest priority and are working together with the South West Grid for Learning to resolve this incident as soon as possible.

If you are affected by this issue, please check the ScoMIS website for updates or phone the ScoMIS Service Desk on 01392 385300.

We apologise for any inconvenience this outage may cause.

We are currently undertaking work to upgrade our Windows KMS Licence Server to allow ScoMIS to release Office 2010 to schools.  During this process schools may receive messages that their Windows product is no longer registered.

If schools do receive a "not registered" message, don't worry, Windows will automatically try to update its licence every few hours.  Until a new licence is obtained Windows may run in Reduced Functionality Mode with certain Windows features being unavailable.

Further information to follow.

The latest Electronic version of the SupplyZone catalogue for FMS 6 is now available for all Schools to download from the ScoMIS Upgrades Site.

To update your FMS 6, download and install the catalogue, then import the catalogue into FMS 6.  Full download notes are available from the Upgrades Site.

Schools on the ScoMIS SIMS Terminal Server will have the update installed automatically, but will still need to follow the "Import to FMS 6" instructions, please follow the link from the Terminal Server help pages.
