Virgin Media are doing essential overnight works in the Exeter area between 00:05 and 06:00 tomorrow (Weds AM). These works will affect the main SWGfL connection for the Exeter network - access to Scomis services should be unaffected due to the resilient network connections in place.

Following on from the SWGfL firewall migration, a problem has arrisen that has caused a widespread loss of service across the entire south west.

Typically Schools will be able to access the Internet (such as www.bbc.co.uk) but will be unable to access services such as Hosted Terminal Server, Remote Backup and Remote Support and more.

SWGfL/RM are working with suppliers to correct the fault, although at time of writing we are unable to give schools an estimated time for a fix.

Please keep checking our News website or this post for further updates.

13:42 - The SWGfL/RM third party has applied a fix which currently appears to have resolved connectivity issues.

16:30 - Following this mornings SWGfL Firewall problems, RM have put a fix in place - the platform has been stable since lunchtime and it will be monitored to prevent any further problems from recurring. Investigations are ongoing into the root cause.

A problem has arisen with the new version of DTSApps for Finance Code Review customers on the Terminal Server.

We are currently investigating the cause of this issue and early diagnostics suggest that the problem is caused by the Microsoft EasyPrint software on Server 2008 version of Terminal Server.

Driverless Printing Information - http://faq.scomis.org/kb3082/

In light of this we recommend that Server 2008 users download and install the new Driverless Printing software which seems to work around the problem.

Scomis are also looking into an alternative method of accessing DTSApps through our Server 2003 version of Terminal Server for those customers who are experiencing problems.

Anti-virus licences for Devon, Plymouth and Torbay schools expire on March 31st 2011. ScoMIS have been able to successfully negotiate with our supplier which means that there will be no increase in price for the third year running. McAfee School Client Licences will remain at £2.64 per licence.

Please complete the online form indicating if your school would like to buy into the anti-virus service, and also how many licences will be required. Details of the anti-virus software are available on the ScoMIS website at http://www.scomis.org/go/antivirus. If you are making your own arrangements to purchase antivirus software elsewhere, please indicate this on the on-line form. This will prevent licence update reminders being sent to you.

ScoMIS highly recommend schools carry out a full inventory in both the curriculum and administration areas to enable the correct number of licences are purchased to cover each PC and laptop within the school (including any home use PC).

Schools who choose not to purchase anti-virus licences from ScoMIS will need to source their own anti-virus licences and remove the anti-virus software supplied by ScoMIS from all their PCs by the 31st March 2011.
